How long ago did you start with Iron-Oak Fitness?
I started personal training, in 2014, with Ross before Iron-Oak opened.
Why did you want to get started with personal training?
I was a little overweight to put it lightly and it seemed like it would be an easier way to learn because I just had no idea at that point. I figured if someone could help me with all the form and the dieting, it would be a lot easier of a process than just trying to do it on my own.
What have you been doing for your “diet”/weight loss?
Lots of chicken, broccoli, and greek yogurt. For a couple of years now.
How much did you weigh when you started training and how much did you lose?
I hit 195 at one point, from 330, but I’m up a bit now.
What do your 1-on-1 and independent workouts look like?
Ross and I would do a lot of WODs (Workout of The Day) together. We also worked on a lot of form and technique stuff. The part that help me stay motivated was learning things like the clean and jerk, and the snatch. That’s what I like to do. Find what you’re good at and that’s what you’ll want to keep doing.
You followed Ross to Iron-Oak Fitness when they opened about a year ago. What do you think about the group classes you’ve added to your routine?
We usually do a strength training workout and then something that takes a while or with cardio after. It makes me feel accomplished, like I’ve really done something.
How would you describe the environment at Iron-Oak Fitness?
There’s a lot of different ability levels. I really like that everyone is pretty close one another; we joke around, workout, and push each other – try to compete against each other. I think it’s a really good environment.
